Iyengar yoga Standing poses, Tresco

In the back of ‘Light on Yoga’ is a 300 week yoga programme. I though it would be interesting to practice week one. Guruji said “My body is my first prop”. Today this is all I had too, so this is a practice without any other props, not even a mat 🙂 and I kept slipping in the sand which made it slightly more challenging.
For more info about the poses check out the Light on Yoga book, it is amazing.
Next week I will put up the second version I made, with props and shoulder stand too.
Love and light,
Lucy

Turning my world upside down

Simply working towards some inversions, I do give other options if you don’t fancy or cannot go upside down.
I find going upside down really quietening for my busy brain. Always a good thing for me to do when my mental chatter becomes all encompassing (plus I love the feeling too 🙂
If you have never been upside down, get a teacher to guide you up the first few times, with extra eyes on the puzzle you will get to know the correct actions required.
As always, regard your body and the feed back from your body with utmost reverence.
Practice to your own capacity.
Enjoy,
Lucy

Happy Standing Poses

What to say? Dan said it all; “Happy standing poses!”.
The winter brings such joy when the sun shines.

You might notice that I have shoes on my mat… the shoes were clean and new. I bought them last summer but i had no-where to wear them out. They have come into their own now though. It was a little strange wearing shoes on my yoga mat at first, I got used to it pretty quickly and they are so much more comfortable than slipping around in socks (toe-socks or otherwise)

Join me as i run (well, stand and jump) through these poses.
Enjoy, and work within your own capacity.

See you soon, love and light
Lucy

Warrior on the Rocks

Sometimes life can feel a little rocky.
This little practice will bring a sense of strength from inside out (they are called warrior poses for a reason).
One of my teachers always said “why be a worrier when you can be a warrior” 🙂
The forward bends towards the end of the sequence release the spine and the backs of the legs, then finishing with Adho Mukha Virasana, the mind becomes passive.
Prussia cove is a precious place with a beautiful energy. This practice and place left me feeling blessed.
Look after your body, your mind and your emotions.
Take care of yourself,
Ahimsa,
Lucy

A practice for your legs

This practice is a great way to start the day.
Not much knee bending in this session, a simple practice with shoulder stand at the end.
Lift up your knee-caps, energize your thighs. Your legs should feel great after this routine.
Listen to your body and respond to it’s needs. It is the only one you’ve got!
Enjoy

Yoga Unplanned – episode 3

I remember learning to take the weight on my arms for hand-stands during the yoga class, it was a pose that always made me want to leave the room.
My teacher would say “Just kick up!”. Of course, eventually I did.
This pose strengthens the arms, shoulders and wrists. Practice this with gentle repetition to gradually increase strength, so as to not strain the wrists etc.
Inversions are not advised through the Iyengar tradition during menstruation as it goes against the flow in the body at that time of the month.
